Bairro Alto and Last Looks

We decided to spend our last day before returning home in the Bairro Alto district, much as we spent our first day in Lisbon on our first trip: on foot, without much agenda, guided by whatever caught our eye, stopping occasionally for a snack or a drink. As much as I love to see famous buildings and monuments, and to soak in as many art museums as possible, for me nothing can beat a day spent this way.

This panoramic view is from the Miradouro de São Pedro de Alcantara, looking down from the hills of the Bairro Alto District toward the Rossio and Baixa Districts. We passed near or through this park countless times on both trips, and as I recall this was the first thing I stopped to photograph on our first day here during our honeymoon. I’d had the notion to make a panorama of this view ever since, and here it is at long last.

Lisbon is the only city we have visited more than once together. This second visit only strengthened our affection for this place, and I hope we’ll have the opportunity to visit again.
